Who we are:

Trustees of Starfish :

Mark Sheircliff (Chair of Trustees)

Mark grew up in Zambia where he lived until the age of 12. He has travelled widely across the continent and has gained an appreciation of the unique challenges of working in Africa. Mark is an IT Consultant currently working in the Public Sector. He has served as a Secondary School Governor.

Carolyn Sheircliff

Carolyn is an Advisor for Citizens Advice and an Administrator with experience in the Ministry of Defence and local organisations.

Roger Ryton

Roger had a career in Banking and, having retired, is now a freelance photographer.  Roger was Treasurer of Newbury Baptist Church for many years and is also involved in Food Bank. Roger is highly respected here in Newbury.

Shelley Bowden

Shelley is the administrator of a busy local authority legal services department in which she co-ordinates and supports the practice of a team of lawyers. In addition, she has expertise in child development and brings this commitment to children's education to the work of Starfish Zambia.

Kristiina Reed

Kristiina is a practising barrister and, alongside legal practice, she has developed an interest in enabling and empowering children and young adults through educational achievement. She is a guest lecturer at Kings College, London, has previously sat as a panel member for Education Admissions Appeals and Exclusion Appeal panels for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, and has served as a Governor for a number of Berkshire schools. She is also a trustee for two legal charities.

Shirley Springer

Shirley has been a secondary school teacher for nearly 40 years and a Deputy Head for 23 years. She was also the Teaching School Director for over 10 years. She has recently retired but continues to take a keen interest in her old school as a Governor. Shirley raised over £10000 at her Sussex school for a Zambian community; this money provided funding to build a small primary school in a rural area north of Lusaka, as well as 250 mosquito nets, a water bore hole for the community and 8 ‘buffalo bikes’ for teachers to get to school. Ever since visiting this wonderful country she has remained deeply committed to supporting the people of Zambia, especially in the field of education. Shirley raises money each year selling hand crafted goods with her sister Jean - all the money goes to Starfish Zambia.

Zambia Co-ordinator:

Margie Ntala

Margie is the co-ordinator of Lordsway Ministries and Children in Crisis Africa, as well as Starfish Zambia. It is through Margie that we understand the needs of our students, and indeed who we should be supporting. Margie is supported by a team of local people working across all three charities. She effectively ensures that our work is con-ordinated with that of the other charities. For example, CICA may sponsor an orphan through School, and we then pick them up and support through College.
